Sonreír means “to smile,” and that spirit is infused into every part of the brand. Founded by a Mexican American family of first and second-generation entrepreneurs, Sonreír Coffee Company was born from a desire to honor heritage, celebrate community, and bring the warmth of the café experience into the home through clean, ready-to-drink coffee.
The founders came to Mindful & Good with a vision rooted deeply in family history and cultural pride. Raised around the rituals of Latin-American coffee culture, they wanted to create a premium canned coffee that reflected both tradition and modern values: light-roast, single-origin Mexican coffee, plant-based ingredients, low sugar, and no unnecessary additives. The challenge was creating a shelf-ready brand that could immediately communicate authenticity, quality, and joy in a highly competitive ready-to-drink category, especially for a new brand without established recognition.
We developed a brand identity system that balances premium positioning with warmth and accessibility. Inspired by Mexican folk art, talavera tile, papel picado, and hand-painted café signage, the packaging features custom botanical illustrations unique to each flavor. These illustrations create instant shelf recognition while celebrating the ingredients and cultural roots behind the product. The typography draws from traditional Mexican storefront lettering, expressive, handcrafted, and confident, while the color palette pairs vibrant sun-washed tones with grounded earth neutrals to evoke optimism, nostalgia, and café culture.
The packaging architecture was designed to unify four distinct SKUs while creating flexibility for future growth across retail, café partnerships, and e-commerce. Beyond aesthetics, the system strategically emphasizes Sonreír’s clean ingredient story: dairy-free coconut milk, naturally sweetened profiles, minimal calories, and ethically sourced coffee. The cans communicate a premium café-quality experience without sacrificing transparency or approachability.
At the heart of the brand is a deeper narrative about resilience, entrepreneurship, and representation. Sonreír embodies the story of immigrant ambition and second-generation perseverance, honoring the traditions of Latin-American coffee while creating something distinctly modern and accessible for today’s conscious consumer. The result is a brand that feels joyful, culturally rich, and genuinely human.
Sonreír’s first production run sold out quickly, proving strong demand for a culturally grounded, clean-ingredient ready-to-drink coffee brand that stands apart visually and emotionally on shelf.
